THOR at the Electrotrans 2021
THOR has thunderstroke ⚡ the ElectroTrans. As part of Public Transport Week at the Expocentre Venue, THOR (Car Systems LLC) presented its solution that solves the problem of noiseless electric transport.
The neat black stand of THOR stood out among the 90 exhibiting companies. It attracted attention not only visually, its sound gained visitors and exhibitors during all days.
Showing silent electric car Tesla Model3 the company presented THOR AVAS sound warning system.
Depending on the degree to which the accelerator pedal was pressed, the beautiful sound would pick up or decelerate, thereby helping prospective pedestrians, cyclists and other road users hear the electric vehicle's intention when it accelerate or slow down. Sound scenarios can now be selected from the available list or created for a specific task.
The soundtrack attracted visitors and everyone wanted to independently choose the script and press the pedal. They could have a closer look at the speaker system at the desktop demo stand. It worked just like an electric car: by pressing a mini pedal and adjusting the volume and tone of sounds in the application on the phone, you could understand the THOR system in action.
"Why do electric cars need to be equipped with sounds?" the visitors asked.
The answer is simple. The massive introduction of electric vehicles, in addition to positive aspects, leads to numerous accidents such as collisions with pedestrians and cyclists. Other car owners also get into accidents because they simply cannot hear the approach of a silent electric vehicle.
That is why the USA, Europe and China have already passed a law according to which the AVAS system must be installed on all electric cars (Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System - AVAS). But not all systems can sound beautiful and meet other important standards for comfortable audible announcement.
THOR's sound engineers create interesting harmonious sounds that meet the ideas of how the city of the future should sound. With the help of a small but well-designed acoustic system, connected via a module to the control of an electric car, electric scooter, electric bike, electric scooter through a mobile application, silent transport will sound.
THOR team has demonstrated a ready-made solution that can be applied in the work of public transport, sharing services, making the electric buses and scooters that are driving at decent speeds along the streets of our cities, safe for all road users.
THOR presentation theme was about Acoustic Ecology and Safety, where the team members also touched upon the sound of electric vehicles, talked about plans to test several types of electric vehicles with a focus group of blind and hard of hearing citizens, the importance of the participation of relevant regulatory authorities and the most important thing is the opportunity to assist them in the joint development of norms and rules for the sound of future transport in all cities.
Taking into account the peculiarities of each area – no matter if it is the bustling city or sleeping areas, the THOR AVAS system will adapt and make a good sound in accordance with the environment, allowing to hear the approach of the EV and give everyone on the road the opportunity to make the right decisions.
