Electric vehicle sound regulation

The UN legislation on electric car safety has mandated the inclusion of acoustic vehicle alerting systems (AVAS) in all new electric vehicles (EVs). This legislation addresses concerns regarding the sound, or lack thereof, produced by EVs, and the potential safety risks this poses to pedestrians and cyclists. The goal is to enhance acoustic safety by ensuring EVs emit a sound noticeable enough to alert those nearby of their presence.

Continuing the discussion on EV sound and the UN legislation, the regulation can be seen as a significant milestone in electric car legislation. By focusing on the acoustic safety of EVs, the legislation aims to ensure that these vehicles, despite their near-silent operation, do not pose a threat to pedestrians and cyclists. In essence, the newly introduced standards require all EVs to emit a detectable sound to alert those in the vicinity, thereby reducing potential risks and enhancing overall road safety.
